Eco friendly organic mattress

Why do we need a good mattress?

Mattress is an item that surely acts as a stress buster. A good mattress is a must have. We often tend to ignore the mattress as it does not add any aesthetic value and just keeps hiding under the bed coverJ. But if you invest in a good mattress, it will go a long way

Health – Most importantly, a mattress is often a reason for various kinds of pain.  Especially the back, which responsibly carries you, will suffer if the mattress you are sleeping on is not a good one. Considering the amount of time we spend on the bed, I find it very strange when people care the least about buying a good mattress.

People who suffer from spondylitis are often advised to sleep in particular types of mattresses. That is because the position of the spine and shoulder is important in resting position as well.

Another very common problem could be allergy

triggering from mattresses. Bed bugs and mites creep in easily and they multiply in alarming speed. A good material which is made to resist mites can help .Especially if you have children in the house, you should take extra care. Some kids are so sensitive and allergy prone that an improper mattress can keep them sensitive constantly.

Investing in one is important keeping in mind your long term health.

Comfort – Without a comfortable night’s sleep, the next day wouldn’t be a good one. Sometimes unreasonable irritability, restlessness and anger can arise from incomplete and bad quality sleep. We often do not realize that the mattress can be a root cause for this.

Your mattress thus has a lot to do with your how you spend your next day. The flexibility, firmness, bounce are to be kept in mind while buying a mattress. These days you can mostly try out all mattresses. Try and go for the one that suits you.

Give back to nature – An organic ecofriendly mattress is made from chemical free materials. Mostly, Latex, wool, cotton and coir( Indian Specialty mattresses) goes in the making of organic ecofriendly mattresses. The technology used to make mattresses also affects the quality of the mattress. We will learn in a bit how do we choose the best and the organic ecofriendly mattresses and what are the certifications which will tell us so.

How do we know if a mattress is organic and ecofriendly?

The term “organic” and “ecofriendly” are often used frequently

these days without actually being so. You never know what you are actually getting in the name of “organic” or “ecofriendly”.

Look out for standards and guides that certify your stuff is actually organic. Especially for mattresses, It is not only the material you should look at but also the manufacturing process.

The materials used may be organic but of their treatment is chemical laden; the end product is obviously not “organic”. There is a lot that goes in the making of a mattress. So unless your product is certified by an international standard body, you might not be duly covered.

Some standards and certifications to look out for in an organic ecofriendly mattress are:

Global organic textile standard also popularly known as GOTS – Ensures 95% of the materials used and produced in a process that is  organic and does not cause any harm to the environmentGlobal organic latex standards, popularly known as GOLS – In case you are buying the latex mattress, it guarantees that the latex used in the mattress has not harmed the environment in any way. Greenguard – This is an international  standard for all things green. This guarantees that the production is in line with all green standards. Please also check if it is certified that the materials used are not tested on animals.

How do I decide which mattress is best for me?

The few things you should consider while finally buying are:

The make of your bed and the kind of support it will give to the mattress. This is very important as if you don’t have proper even support to your mattress, it can sag and get cut in a while. The maintenance – Generally speaking, any mattress can be protected with a good waterproof mattress protector that you get very easily online these days. However depending on the material and make of your mattress, please see the manual and if you are comfortable using

and maintaining it.Your physical condition – If you have back pain, shoulder pain, allergy, spondylitis, sleep disorders, Please take suggestion from your doctor as to what kind of mattress should you go for. Generally people with chronic pain conditions, are advised to sleep on firm beds. Orthopedic mattresses are firm and good for such conditions. Some mattresses can be used differently on both the sides. You can flip and the firmness, bounce and flexibility changes. In case you are taking a size that can be handled easily, you can try this option.Foam, coir, latex, wool, cotton or combination of these….there are various materials that are generally used to make a mattress.  Every material has a very different characteristic. Your choice will mainly depend on the above points that are mentioned in this article. There are brands that offer you mattresses in various budgets. Please keep your budget in mind along with all the above and decide.

Try out the mattress you choose for some time. Almost all makers give you this option these days. In case you are not comfortable request for a change.
